- Notes: Viola pratincola is similar to V. pedatifida but has “typical” heart-shaped leaves (sometimes with rounded tips) with blades up to 2” by 3” and smooth above and below. The flowers are raised to about the same level as the leaves. The flowers are similar (petals 3/4” long), with hairs on the lower petals. The fruits are similar. Flowering is from late April to late May, and fruiting begins in late May. V pratincola is frequent on moist prairies and in open woods as well as in lawns.
