The species are presented in order by family and within families by genus. Pteridophytes, the ferns and fern allies, are first, followed by the flowering plants, dicots first and then monocots.
Violaceae - Violet Family
The violet family has irregular flowers with five petals. The lower petal bends back upon the flower stalk, forming a spur within which nectar is produced. Five sepals alternate with the petals, and five stamens develop within the corolla around the three-parted ovary. The superior ovary develops into a capsule. The basal leaves are heart-shaped or divided into a bird-foot pattern.
