Showy goldenrodSolidago speciosa Nutt.
- Notes: Solidago speciosa is similar to tall goldenrod except the stem is hairy only in the inflorescence and the lower leaves are retained on the stem. The leaves gradually diminish in size from bottom to top (4” by 1/2” to 1/2” by 3/32”) and have smooth margins. The inflorescence is more cylindrical although it is usually widest at the base. The fillaries are pointed to rounded. Flowering is from late August to early October, and fruiting begins in mid-September. S. speciosa is infrequent on dry to mesic prairies and sometimes in open woods.
