- Notes: Lobelia siphilitica is more robust than L. spicata, 1 1/2’ to 2’ tall, with spreading hairs on the stem angles. The leaves are 2” by 1/2” to 5” by 1” (in wet areas), widest at the middle, and tapering to both ends. The leaf margins have more prominent teeth and sharper tips, and there are short hairs on the leaf margins. The flowers are dark blue, 1” long, with three prominent lower lobes. The fruits are widest below the middle and taper to sharp points. Flowering is from early August to mid-September, and fruiting begins in mid-August. L. siphilitica is frequent on wet prairies, on stream banks, and in sandy marshes.
