Slender wheatgrassAgropyron trachycaulum (Link) Make
- Notes: Agropyron trachycaulum is similar to western wheatgrass but is tufted, without underground stems. The leaves are somewhat shorter and more narrow (6” by 3/32”), and the spikelets are appressed to the stem, making the inflorescence very narrow. The spikelets are often awned to 1” long. Flowering is from mid-June to mid-July. Fruiting begins in late June, but the spikelets do not fall until September. A. trachycaulum is infrequent on dry to mesic prairies to open woods.
