Baldwin’s ironweedVernonia baldwinii Torrey
- Notes: Vernonia baldwinii is similar to V. fasciculata except the stem is hairy, the leaves are wider and shorter (4” by 1” below to 2 1/2” by 1/2” above) and hairy below. The inflorescence, heads, and fruits are similar, but the fillaries are sharp-tipped and reflexed. Flowering is from mid-July to late August, and fruiting begins in late July. V. baldwinii is frequent on dry upland prairies and in pastures to open woods.
