- Notes: Dichanthelium oligosanthes var. scribnerianum is a tufted perennial often with several stems from one root crown. Leaf sheaths have long, bulb-based hairs or are without hairs. The ligule is tiny. The leaf blades are 2” to 3” by 1/4”, smooth above and below, with stiff marginal hairs near the base of the blade. The inflorescence is 3” long with spikelets 1/8” long and with short hairs on the glumes. The spike lets have purple bases and stigmas. Flowering is from late May to mid-June. Fruiting begins in early June, and spikelets begin dropping in mid-June. D. oligosanthes var. scribnerianum is common on mesic to dry prairies, as well as on roadsides and in open woods.
