Prairie lettuceLactuca ludoviciana (Nutt.) Riddell
- Notes: Lactuca ludoviciana is similar to L. canadensis except the margins of the leaf teeth are themselves toothed, sometimes without deep lobing. The ears at the base of the leaves are larger and pointed. The inflorescence is the shape of an upright cone at maturity. Flower heads are similar in size with the rays more yellowish. The fillaries are longer (1/2” to 5/8”). The fruits are similar but slightly larger. Flowering is from early July to late August, and fruiting begins in mid-July. L. ludoviciana is infrequent on dry prairies and Loess Hills prairies to upland prairies and is usually associated with some disturbance.
