- Notes: Aster umbellatus usually has unbranched stems and retains its lower leaves through flowering. The leaves have short hairs above and below. The heads are arranged in a corymbiform shape at the top of the stem, and there are fewer (6-7) ray flowers. Flowering is from mid- to late August, and fruiting begins in late August. A. umbellatus is infrequent on moist prairies and marshes.
