- Stem: perennial from a bulb; flower stalk 1’ ton/2’ tall.
- Leaves: mostly basal; linear, with a clasping base, tapering to a point at the tip; 6” to 8” by 1/16”; smooth.
- Inflorescence: umbel of numerous flowers on short stalks from the tip of a 1’ to 1 1/2’ flower stalk; two or three bracts, 1/2” long, below the umbel.
- Flowers: sepals and petals pink (to white), 1/4” long; flowers sometimes replaced by tiny bulbs, 3/8” long, or a mixture of bulbs and flowers; flowering from early to late June.
- Fruits: capsule, 1/8” in diameter; with three chambers; fruiting begins in late June.
- Habitat: frequent on mesic to dry prairies; also in open woods and in more moist habitats.
