Notes: Rosa Carolina is similar to R. arkansana with the stems more or less prickly. The leaves are similar except the leaflets are fewer (5-7), smaller (5/8” by 1/2”), and hairy above and below. The inflorescence, flowers, and fruits are similar except the flower stalks and sepals have glandular hairs and the sepals are reflexed in fruit. Flowering is from mid-June to mid-July, and fruiting begins in early July. R. Carolina is common on upland to dry prairies in eastern Iowa and sometimes in open woods and is very uncommon in western Iowa.
