- Stem: perennial; 3’ to 5’ tall; unbranched, smooth.
- Leaves: alternate; pinnately compound, seven to eleven leaflets; blade 3” to 8” long; leaf stalk 1” to 3”, clasping the stem; leaflets 3” by 1/2” and smaller; margins with few, small teeth; smooth above and below.
- Inflorescence: compound umbels on flower stalks from the stem tip and upper leaf axils; umbel to 4” across; the flowers not crowded.
- Flowers: petals white, 1/16” long, attached to the top of the ovary; calyx tiny; flowering from early to late August.
- Fruits: two one-seeded fruits, 3/16” long; with wings from top to bottom; fruiting begins in mid-August.
- Habitat: infrequent on moist prairies.
