- Notes: Euphorbia marginata has upright stems, 1’ to 2’ tall and with few hairs. The leaves are alternate to opposite, oval with rounded bases and pointed tips, 2 1/2” by 1 1/4”, and smooth above and below. Typically there are three clusters of “flowers” from the stem tip and upper leaf axils. The leaves below the flower stalks have white margins. The “flowers” are similar to E. corollata except the “petals” are shorter, and each has a yellowish gland in the center. The fruits are similar to E. corollata. Flowering is from mid-July to late August, and fruiting begins in early August. E. marginata is frequent on dry prairies and Loess Hills prairies in western Iowa and very infrequent elsewhere.
