- Notes: Apocynum cannabinum is similar to A. sibiricum except the leaves have short leaf stalks, 1/8” to 3/8” long. The leaves are similar in size with a more distinct point at the tips and are rounded at the bases. The flowers and fruits are similar. Flowering is from late June to early August. Fruiting begins in mid-July. A. cannabinum is common in moist, open woods, on roadsides, and in open, disturbed places and is also found on mesic prairies. It is less common in northeast Iowa. A. cannabinum is sometimes a troublesome weed in minimum-till crop fields.
