The species are presented in order by family and within families by genus. Pteridophytes, the ferns and fern allies, are first, followed by the flowering plants, dicots first and then monocots.

Fabaceae - Legume Family
The legume or pea family has typical sweetpea-type flowers and pods as fruits. The pods split into two halves with a row of seeds attached along one seam. Often the leaves are pinnately divided; examples are false indigo and showy tick trefoil. Two smaller groups have more regular flowers in which all the petals are similar, but the fruits have the typical family characteristics; examples are partridge pea and prairie mimosa.
