Stiff flaxLinum rigidum Pursh
- Notes: Linum rigidum is about 1’ tall and is similar to L. sulcatum, but the stem is not grooved. The leaves are somewhat narrower (1/32”), with the edges often rolling upward. The flowers are larger, the petals up to 1/2” long, and the five style arms are enlarged at the tips. The calyx is divided to the base, hairy, and with very sharp tips. The fruits split into five sections. Flowering is earlier, from early June to mid-July, and fruiting begins in late June. L. rigidum is infrequent on dry and Loess Hills prairies in western Iowa.
