Panicum linearifolium Scribner
- Notes: Dichanthelium linearifolium is a tufted perennial 8” to 12” tall. The leaf sheaths are stiff-hairy and there is no ligule. The leaf blade is 6” by 1/16” to 1/8”, narrow and in-rolled near the base and wider above, and stiff-hairy below. The basal leaves are similar to the stem leaves. The inflorescence is 1” long, and the flower stalks are smooth. Spikelets are 3/32” to nearly 1/8” long with prominent veins on the glumes. Flowering is from early to late June. Fruiting begins in mid-June, and spikelets begin dropping in mid-July. D. linearifolium is infrequent on dry, sandy, and gravelly prairies in north-central to south-central Iowa and very infrequent elsewhere.
