Flodman’s thistle Cirsium flodmanii (Rydb.) Arthur
Notes: Cirsium flodmanii is perennial and shorter than C. discolor (1’ to 2 1/2’ tall) with stems densely white-hairy. The leaves are smaller with many small lobes on the margins. The lower surfaces are very densely hairy and somewhat hairy on the upper surface as well. Heads are a little smaller. Flowering is from late June to early August, and fruiting begins in late July. C. flodmanii is common on dry, rocky, and sandy prairies and on Loess Hills prairies.
