Hairy mountain mintPycnanthemum pilosum Nutt.
- Notes: Pycnanthemum pilosum is taller than P. virginianum (to 4’ tall) and is very hairy on the stem angles and toward the stem tip. The leaves are similar but wider (1/2”), with a tapering base, and are hairy below. The inflorescence is similar, but the flower stalks are more hairy and the bracts beneath the heads are more elongate, hairy\ and dotted. The flowers and fruits are similar. Flowering is from late July to mid-August, and fruiting begins in mid-August. P. pilosum is frequent in upland, open woods, on prairies, and also on roadsides.
