Oval milkweedOval-leaved milkweedAsclepias ovalifolia Dene.
- Notes: Asclepias ovalifolia is similar to green milkweed but with shorter, wider leaves (2” by 1”) which are finely hairy below. There are fewer flowers per umbel (about fifteen) and the flowers are slightly smaller and greenish white to greenish purple. Fruits are shorter and thicker (3” long by 3/4” in diameter) and taper gradually to the tip. Flowering is from mid- to late June, and fruiting begins in mid-July. A. ovalifolia is infrequent on dry prairies.
